What counts as the "NYC disaster area"?

The disaster area is the section of Lower Manhattan south of Canal Street. If you lived, worked, attended school, or volunteered there, or took part in rescue, recovery, or cleanup operations, you may qualify for a free case review.

Do I have to have been diagnosed right away?

No. Exposure had to happen between September 11, 2001 and May 31, 2002, but a cancer diagnosis can come at any time after that. Many people are only being diagnosed now, years later.

Do I have to have been a first responder to qualify?

No. Office workers, students, residents, and anyone who spent time in the disaster area during the exposure window may be eligible, not just first responders.

I already received compensation. Can I still qualify?

If you were previously compensated and have since been diagnosed with an additional or new cancer, you may be able to apply again for further compensation.
